When entering birth dates of say seniors and "attending since".... if is a date many decades ago not useful to use the calendar (scroll, scroll, scroll more than I'd ever do).... would make more sense to just type it in.

In the meantime, if you click (or tap) on the year, you can type the year, then select the month. Not as simple as entering the date directly, but will save on the scrolling.
