We'd love a way to easily manage a team of backup service volunteers who aren't limited to a position on a team. This might be acheived by the creation of a Sub-Team to which people could be added without assigned positions.

This would make it easier to filter a group of flexible, willing volunteers when there's a gap in the roster, without reference to a specific position. Of course, where necessary (e.g. qualified guitarist), such people could still be added to the relevant defined position within the Backup sub-team.

But the ability to leave some team members unassigned would allow them to be available to schedule wherever needed - e.g. on a welcome team, in a kitchen, in a pack down crew, children's ministry runner, etc.
