This request asks for some priority to implement as soon as possible.
We developed a QR system that shows on a person’s smartphone their unique security code as a QR. We are using unique codes per person, not family codes. It also shows their family members unique codes, if they have registered to attend (or if registrations are not in place).
We then scan with a barcode reader to record attendance. We do this for adults and also for our kids church which prints labels. This is fine and good, we have been doing this since November 2020 for small outdoor services. At the end of December the rules changed and we could hold indoor services.
Due to using our large auditorium, according to 1 person per 2 sqm rule, AND the fact we must use an attendance recording system, we find we are struggling to process 200+ people within a check-in window. We could expand team, more scanners and more laptops but that’s a cost and also only effective to a point.
I would like to see a relatively simple addition to the API to allow a person to be added to a service attendance. Much like adding a person to a group via API. In our PHP based web system, we already have the people ID and the service ID. If we could do this, then that would bring our system much closer to the “perceived simplicity and speed” of government systems - for which a person scans a code, signs in, submits and done.
I understand this is a big ask, but it might pave the way for development of simple check-in for other churches. Not saying I could develop the product but that comes down to time/cost/etc. I wonder if other churches might then be able to implement their own solutions faster.
Do you already have something in the pipeline? This is Victoria, Australia I am talking about. It looks like in our state we will need to do this for contact tracing for some time. I can only imagine this is a worldwide problem.
