Assets for Services

Hi, it would be great to be able to book assets for services. Currently, we use assets to book rooms/equipment and Services for checking in. For example, our Youth Group want s to book certain rooms on its night so we create an event but then we want to have the youth check in so we create a service and thus we have Youth Group show up twice on our calendar.

We could not find a easy way to book resources (equipment) or rooms directly in the service. So we always need to create a separate event to book the equipment, which doesn't make sense. Where can you book the resources directly in the service?

Assigning assets to services is not something we offer currently, but there is a highly-voted-for request for this already, so I'm going to merge this request with that one so your vote counts with the others.

Just to be clear, we don't plan on merging services and events. We will always keep them as separate features within the system. We do plan on making it so that
some
of the functionality is shared between the two one day though. Things like registration and RSVPs will only be in Events for example. Scheduling (using Departments/Teams + Auto Schedule etc) will only be in services.
However, the ability to have assets will definitely be shared between the two, as well as other features like check-in (one day)
To answer the question though: No, we have not yet had a chance to look at this. When there is news, I will keep this updated.

Stewart Polley: Hey Stewart, what exactly is the reason why services and events cannot be merged? I think there would only be benefits?! Can you tell, what's the reason why there can only be a 'shared' version and no 'merged' version?

Johannes Dück: I don't think we can rule out anything at this point. I can definitely see the benefits of having some overlapping features (rostering for volunteers of church events, tracking attendance reports for events, etc.). We do base our roadmap on the votes for the request (plus a few other factors). There are some requests that are outranking this one votes-wise, but changing some things in this space is definitely a possibility.

I highly recommend to merge services and events! :) Right now services AND events have helpful functions, but we also have the case very often, that we need to create an event AND a service. I don't really see an advantage in splitting those two kind of events. If services and events would be merged, all functions could be used together which would solve lots of problems for us in one step. Why not adding plans, rostering, live and check in to events? Everything of it would be helpful for events - if you don't need them: Don't use them :) But for those who need it it is much more easy and logical for the users to create events and services.

Booking resources in the service tool
Dear Elvanto Team,
we have for example different services at the same time in our church. So is would be great to have an option in the Service tool of Elvanto to book resources like rooms etc. for a service like you can do it for an event.

I second and add:
Groups should be able to have assets assigned to them. Currently, it's only events that are able to have assets assigned. So if we are using assets church-wide, one must ALSO create an event for the group to fully use the assets feature reservation/conflict across the system.
